How Aptitude Affect Individual Learning?

Aptitude is a function of a number of independent traits and characteristics as a learner. It is a specific task and depends on possession of certain characteristics may either be innate or may be dependent upon prior learning or exposure to certain situation. Being physically, mentally, socially and emotionally fit to a great aptitude. Physical development It is generally recognized that ill health retards physical and motor development and malnutrition interferes with learning and physical growth. Children suffering from visual, auditory and other physical defects are seriously handicapped in developing skills such as reading and spelling. The health of the learner will likely affect his ability to learn and his power to concentrate. Its not only there are a wide variations among individual in health as a whole, but also in particular aspects. A child, for instance may be considered healthier than another child yet have poorer vision or hearing than the other. A number of sickness o physical defects may vary and kinds of physical ailment present a challenge to teacher. Even though such a child is of average or superior mental ability, his physical defect is likely to interfere with his learning progress unless all available means are utilized to correct such as defects. Mental Development Attitude are less of define sort. They play a large part in the mental organization and general behavior of the individual. Attitudes are also important in the development of personality. Among these attitudes are interest, open-mindedness, cheerfulness, prejudice, affection. and loyalty. Attitude exercise a stimulating effect upon the rate of learning and teaching and upon the progress in school. The efficiency of the work from day to day and the rapidity with which it is achieved are influenced by the attitude of the learner. A favorable mental facilities learning, the factor of interest is very closely related in nature to that of symbolic drive and reward. Individual differences in mental abilities and aptitude are apparent in the classroom. Some children are able to learn faster than others. In an ordinary classroom some children will be able to read from to five times as much as other in a given period. Each group progresses at its own rate. The superior child finds the ordinary tasks at school easy to perform. He may display impatience at the slow learning and lack of insight of his less able classmates. The child with low intelligence, on the other hand find most of the school work too difficult. He becomes discouraged and may develop feeling of inferiority, as a result of his constant failure in school. The mental sets, ideals, purposes, and voluntary efforts of the learner are important in transferring of learning. Emotional and Social Fitness It is recognized fact that the various responses of the individual to various kinds of stimuli are determined by a wide variety of tendencies. Some of these innate tendencies are constructive and others are harmful. Some reason a pupil has developed a dislike from subject because he may fail to see its value or many lack foundation. Some pupils felt not happy because of their fear of being victims of disapproval of their teacher and classmates. This is unwholesome attitudes and affects the learning process to a considerable degree. This is an oftentimes result of a bad training. Social discontent springs from the knowledge or decision that one below in environment is extremely important in shaping individual
