Taking Care Of Wooden Beds

Wooden beds have long been a firm favourite amongst many people when decorating their bedroom. Whilst they look great, are practical and good value for money, there are some important things to consider when taking care of them in order to ensure a long and healthy life span for them. The first thing to think about when putting wooden beds in your room is where you are placing them. The reason for this is that the wood is very responsive to environmental changes and could end up being damaged if proper care isn't taken of them. One of the biggest causes of damage to wooden beds is the sun because the ultraviolet rays penetrate the molecular structure of the finishes, the colour and the wood itself. This can happen in a matter of weeks so don't just put something somewhere for the time being because it could be too late by the time you eventually move it. In order to prevent wooden beds from becoming damaged thanks to the weather the best thing to do is to try and keep them in an area out of the sun. However, if this is not possible then ensure that you have curtains or blinds that you can pull down during the day when the sun is at its strongest. Something to think about when purchasing wooden beds is the fact that the kind of polish that you will need to clean it depends on the type of finish that you have. It is important to dust your furniture before using polish on them because otherwise you will just grind in the elements. If your bed has an oil finish only then simply dust and re - apply oil. If you have older wooden products then lemon oil is recommended whereas this will just leave newer finishes feeling greasy. The good thing about wooden beds is that if you spill something it is not going to become as damaged as say a fabric bed. As long as spillages are cleaned up as quickly as possible your furniture should remain undamaged. However, do be careful when putting glasses and mugs down on your furniture because ring marks are very difficult to get rid of and they may even be permanent. If you have wooden beds, as long as you take the proper care of them then they are likely to last for a very long time and stay looking good throughout their lifetime.
