There are two devastating things that occur often to a home and those are fires and floods. Either one can damage or leave little that may be salvaged in the worst case scenarios. Even when there is a small incident, the remains can be hard to restore and put a living space back to what it was. When there is major damage to a home because of one of these situations, the first thing that should be done is have the house looked at by a proper authority. A dwelling place that is affected by fire is hazardous in certain areas and just as dangerous after the fire is over. If a dwelling is flooded for a while, it needs to be looked over for mold growth and affected floor or wall structures too. Once you make sure the home is safe to go into, you can start clearing out everything. You want to enter the home and remove items that are usable. Any less harmed things may need to be removed for deodorizing due to a fire or sanitized to stop mold growth. This will make cleaning the home easier when there is nothing in the way. After things are removed that you want to keep, it is time to dispose of everything that is ruined. Renting a dumpster and having it brought to your residence could be the most convenient solution if there is much to be gotten rid of. If it is not that much, then a pick up or trailer might be enough space. When the destroyed materials are out, you will be able to actually assess the damage to the walls, ceilings, and floors much easier. It could be necessary to tear out wall studs, sheet rock, and flooring that can be affected by a flood if the mold contamination is big enough. Mold due to flooding needs to be completely destroyed because it can lead to all kinds of health related problems if it is not killed entirely and it will continue growing back. The last thing you want is to replace woodwork and sheet rock and then have mold growing back behind it. A professional cleaning could be the best answer when damage because of mold is on a big scale. One of the worst hazards to solve after a living space has been repaired because of a fire is the repulsive stench. All of the remaining rugs must be cleaned and deodorized. The ceilings, walls, and other floor surfaces will need to be washed down with a deodorizing cleaner too. If you can, get some clean air up in the attic and arrange open boxes of baking soda in selected places there to help in absorbing the stink and perform the same process in the basement. If these procedures still does not get rid of the smell, you probably should get in touch with a skilled cleaning team to do the job to get better results.
