Antiques are items with collectible value and which have survived for the past hundred years at the least. Your old piano may a disposable item for you but the same may be an antique for another person. To an antique lover, such an item is of great value and pride which is worth preserving.
Antiques can be a clock, a jewelry item, a vintage car, silverware and so on. Before you venture into buying antiques, you must keep in mind certain things. Whether you buy from an antique store, from an antique show, or from an online antique store, look for its history and originality. Fake replicas are a possibility which you must guard against. Old is gold but replicas are plated gold. If the item has any defect that needs refurbishment, you better not buy it as originality is lost after refurbishment.
You should guard against reproduction. To a first time buyer, sorting out an antique reproduction from an antique original may not be an easy task. Original antique collection generally has some flaws in it. Some wear and tear may show up, but that are again signs of originality. There is a high possibility that a flawless antique item may actually be a reproduced one.
You should be extra cautious if you are buying an antique item online. You can easily be duped by those mini-size photographs taken from one or two angles. The photographs may not catch any flaw at all. The picture that catches your attention on the screen may not do so when the real thing is in front of you. So buying any antique item online, ask for more details of the items. Request for more photographs of the item. If you are satisfied, then proceed. However, it is always better to take a note of the reliability of the portal.
Antiques are items that need special care and attention. So while buying any such item, first gather information about its storage preservation methods. Generally antiques items are kept kept in moderately humid and cool places. Exposure to direct sunlight is best avoided. They ought to be handled carefully and with soft hands.
If you are a first-time buyer, don't rush to the antique store as if you are buying a T-shirt. You need some guidelines for doing research on starting an antique collection and how to buy it. Specific guidance is available online. Explore the Internet for such guidance on antiques.
