Every Little Aid Helps

Any one of us could easily have a disability. Do not for an instant think that disabilities relate only to people of a singular creed, colour or sex. Disabilities are not necessarily something that you are either born with or you will never have - they can, for a number of reasons effect you later in life. Nevertheless, whatever, or whenever your disability arrives one thing is certain - your life will be enhanced a thousand-fold with the latest disability aids on the market. There seems to be a feeling of pity for the disabled - believe me, these are not people to feel sorry for, but rather to be admired. With help, either from others or aids, they have climbed mountains that you and I would steer well clear of - they have overcome adversities and their strength of character and willpower should leave us all gob-smacked. Everyone needs a little help through life - able bodied or disabled - and for this reason there is a vast range of aids on the market. Some of them even disability aids! Whether you have arthritis and battle to open a jar (Magic Twist Jar Opener), or perhaps find it difficult to pull an awkward plug from the wall (Plug Pull), there are always products out there in the market, which are designed to help with the problem. It is the small disability aids that people know little or nothing about; upon there discovery amazement is a common reaction. We are all familiar with mobility scooters - most of us encounter them daily on the high streets. We also all know about wheelchairs, rise and recline chairs for they are a common sight in our streets and homes. However, what we do not always see is the range of bendable cutlery, the plates with scoop sides and heating to keep food warm. Bottle openers and the two handled drinking beakers are also unrecognised wonder inventions. We rarely see the inflatable hair-washing basin for use in bed, the pill crushers and splitters, the long straws for drinking, the wheelchair tray or even the wheelchair cosy for keeping snug on a winter's day out. This item in particular is essential for when you are not using your own legs for pumping blood around your body with a good walk; therefore, you are more likely to become cold and chilly. Disability aids will continue developing, providing invaluable services to the people who need them. We need to encourage this development whilst taking advantage of materials that can be easily recycled and with an eye to design and flair as well as functionality. Just because a disability aid serves an important purpose, it does not mean that it needs to look like something issued in the local NHS store, there are better designs available. Perhaps the nicest thing about discovering the smaller items is that they help so much when those special days come around - birthdays, Christmas, Anniversaries etc., a perfect gift - sensible, thoughtful and great value for money.
