Eczema - The Worst Eczema Aggravators

In the cases where an Eczema condition hasn't reached but a minor stage, men and women alike treat it just as if it were a minor disturbance. It is just another tiny, dry and red patch of skin that is localized on an elbow or on a shoulder.
However, if things turn severe, people (again men and women alike, but with a focus on the women's reactions) begin to say that they cannot even develop a social life any longer.
Unfortunately, it happens on a frequent basis that people, while treating their skin condition, forget about factors that contribute to its aggravation. And you try in vain to get rid of the disease as long as you keep on subjecting your skin to the influence of agents that are actually turning it worse.
Water and Soaps
One issue is exposure to water. Increased exposure definitely worsens an already installed Eczema. On the other hand, what are we supposed to do? Should we bathe no longer?
Well, no one is proposing such an absurd project. On the contrary, bathing is a must. You just need to decrease the time you spend in the bathtub or under the shower. Prolonged exposure to water turns the skin frail and dehydrates it.
Also, when you bathe or wash dishes or when you have any other kind of contact with water, make sure its temperature is not extreme. Opt for bathing in lukewarm water. Too hot or too cold fluid environments determine skin reactions that worsen Eczema.
In addition, in order to counteract any potential aggravating effect, try to use soap substitutes and bath/shower emollients. Common soaps and shower gels lead to skin dryness. This means further complications of a pre-existing dermatitis. So it is preferable to stay away from too long contact with water and from contact with harsh, drying soaps and other bathing cleansers.
For instance, oatmeal baths (we have already talked about them in one of the previous chapters) are a blessing for an irritated skin. Adding two cups of a colloidal oatmeal product (such as the one pictured above) in lukewarm water will function perfectly as a soap substitute.
It Is All in the Fabric
Coarse fabrics (wool for instance) and synthetic materials make the skin more sensitive. In the cases where an Eczema condition is already manifest, such clothing will irritate the skin even more.
If you want to avoid supplementary, completely unnecessary and annoying skin irritation, try to wear those clothes near/on the skin that are cotton made. Cotton is soft and smooth and does not damage skin.
