At times, your wait for the perfect job may seem too long. During such trying times, you may have to settle for a temporary job to fulfill your financial needs. Making The Move From Temp To Permanent Taking a temporary job, or "temping", may be your best option to earn money while you explore other career possibilities. A temp job may be the gateway to a permanent job as plenty of companies absorb their temp workforce on a permanent basis if they show that they can handle the responsibilities. The transition from temp to permanent may not be very easy, but with the right strategy, you can land a permanent job. Read on to see what simple strategies can help you make the transition from being a temp to having a permanent job. Prove Your Mettle You should understand that no company will ever consider you for permanent employment unless you prove that you are a deserving candidate. As a temp, you need to show your willingness to learn new tasks and take on new responsibilities. You should be able to adapt to the environment and make every effort to meet deadlines. For many people, a temporary job is something that involves less responsibility and is a lot different from typical permanent jobs. As a result, they tend to have a laid back attitude towards their work. Don't let the word "temp" get in the way of your career. The biggest mistake people make is to actually act like a temp - suggesting that they will be around only for a while and cannot be counted on to do a good job. This kind of attitude can wreck your chances of becoming a permanent employee in the company. You need to act like a professional and prove that your services are invaluable to the company. The key is to act as if you are already a permanent employee - to perform at the best of your ability at all times. Dress for Success The way you dress is just as important as the quality of your work. After all, you need to look like a professional so that your employers and superiors feel comfortable to give you more meaningful work. Don't give in to the temptation of dressing too casually - and make sure that you comply with the standard dress code of the company. Use Your Networking Skills Nothing can beat networking if you want to survive in the today's work environment, so make sure that you meet new people and socialize with your colleagues. You may actually have to spend a lot of time with them in future anyway if you become a permanent employee. So why not start today? Rather than looking at your temporary job as a mere source of making additional money, you need to regard it as a stepping stone to a more stable job. So, think professional, act professional, and look professional - and see how soon you get the offer to join the company on a fulltime basis.
