Many cultures and many countries prize smooth skin and because of this, there are many different methods of hair removal. Plucking, pumicing and threading all different ways that people throughout history have dealt with the problem of hair, but more and more people are turning to more modern ways of getting the problem of hair removal taken care of. Laser hair removal is one method that has many advantages over less permanent processes, and there is a reason why it is one of the most common types of epilation that is used today. If you've never worked with this method before, you may be a little confused about the process. Essentially a strong beam of light, the laser is applied to the skin and due tot this, the hair follicle underneath the skin is damaged in a permanent fashion. Because the hair follicle has been damaged, it will be either unable to grow more hair or the hair will grow back at a significantly slower rate. While this process can be time-consuming and create a little bit of skin irritation, this is a excellent way to remove unwanted hair in a lasting fashion. There are several different lasers that are used for this process and they are at least somewhat specialized with regards to who should use them. The diode laser is effective for people with darker skin of all the lasers is excellent for fast repetition; essentially it is ideal for covering larger body areas. The Alexandrite laser, is popular for use on fair to olive skinned patients and is one of the most popular lasers around for epliation purposes. The ruby laser is the oldest one of types of laser used for hair removal, but it can only be used on people with fine and light hair. The long pulse Nd:Yag laser can be used on all skin and hair types and has fast repetition, but it is also one of the more painful lasers out there. If you are looking into laser hair removal, you will likely also encounter intense pulsed light devices, or IPL. These are not lasers, but in a similar fashion, they use a focused, broad spectrum light to damage the hair shaft or root of the hair. Essentially, this process is usually known as hair reduction, rather than hair removal, but it is generally agreed that IPL and laser hair removal have largely similar effects. This process is also usually a bit less expensive than laser hair removal. If you are interested in laser hair removal, you should speak to a professional about what procedures you should undergo. You should also speak with them about what your results will be and how often you might expect to repeat the treatment. Remember that you should always find the option that works the best for you, regardless of cost!
